Brew Review

Anderson Valley Brewing Company
Hop Ottin' IPA

Brewed in Boonville, CA, Hop Ottin' is Boonville/Anderson Valley slang for "hard-working hops". That description is right on the nose. From the first sip to the last, the hops bite at your tongue.
This brew is just plain lovely in a glass, with a golden color that you could just gaze at all night as you hold your glass up to the light. Let's face it though, we're here to drink it, not just stare at it. The head seemed nice and creamy, but dissipated quickly once poured into a glass.
My first thought was that Hop Ottin' IPA would make a fine session ale, as it seems quite light and crisp with a hoppy bitterness that loves to linger. The 7 % ABV may foil any plans you may have for a whole night of drinking though. After about four or five Hop Ottin's, I was ready to call it a night.
A visit to the Anderson Valley Website reveals that Hop Ottin' IPA is an award winner having taken a silver medal at the World Beer Championships in 2001 and most recently, a gold medal at the California State Fair in 2005.
Overall, my experience with Hop Ottin' IPA has been a pleasure. As I sit typing this review and sipping the last of the six pack, I know that it won't be long until I run out to pick up more Anderson Valley Brewing Company - Hop Ottin' IPA
